Education & Healthcare

Education

The Department for Education has a portfolio of around 22,000 state schools, many of which are in need of replacement after years of underfunding and neglect. Many buildings still include materials such as asbestos and aerated concrete which are no longer fit for purpose and are potentially unsafe.

There’s a clear need, then, to replace this infrastructure with better school buildings, and evidence proves that the design of a school building can have significant impact on how well children learn.

Our low and medium rise build systems are are ideal for creating better schools. Our wide range of material options – including timber frame, steel frame or large format masonry panels – can be mixed and matched to create any space an architect can imagine, and then our off-site manufacturing process ensures swift and efficient installation even on the most challenging sites.

Minimal waste and the use of renewable materials such as timber can add up to a more sustainable build compared to traditional masonry options, too.

Healthcare

Building a hospital is a massive undertaking. The process can take up to 20 years and costs around £500million. To maximise treatment and recouperation rates the result need to be highly efficient – easy to navigate and use, and also easy and inexpensive to keep warm and comfortable.

It makes sense, then, to start with the most effective build system for the structure, and our off-site manufactured build systems are well placed to provide that.

Whether you want the structural security of large format masonry panels, the inherent sustainability credentials of timber frames, or the flexibility and ease of light gauge steel frames, you’re free to mix and match different materials to create the best possible structure for your healthcare operation. Whichever system you use, all can be designed to meet the most demanding structural, fire and thermal regulations.
